Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an image to WebP online?
Upload your image (JPG, PNG or WebP). Set the quality with the slider (0–100; 80 is a good default). Click "Convert to WebP" and download the result. Everything runs in your browser; no data is sent to any server.
Why use WebP?
WebP often produces smaller file sizes than JPG or PNG at similar visual quality, which speeds up web pages. All modern browsers support WebP. Converting to WebP is useful for websites, apps, and when you want to save space without losing much quality.
Are my images sent to a server?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.
What does the quality slider do?
Lower values (e.g. 60) give smaller files but more compression; higher values (e.g. 90) keep more detail but larger files. We recommend 75–85 for a good balance. You can compare file size after conversion.
What formats can I upload?
You can upload JPG (JPEG), PNG, and WebP. The output is always WebP. If you already have WebP, you can re-encode it at a different quality.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Open the tool in your mobile browser, upload an image, set quality, convert, and download. No app install required.
Is transparency preserved?
WebP supports transparency. If your source is PNG or WebP with transparency, the output WebP can keep it. JPG has no transparency, so the result will be opaque.
Can I convert multiple images?
This tool converts one file at a time. For batch conversion, use the tool repeatedly or combine with other image tools.
What is the maximum image size?
Limits depend on your device and browser memory. Typical photos (several MB) work without issues. Very large images may take longer.
WebP vs JPG for photos?
WebP often gives 25–35% smaller files than JPG at similar quality. Use WebP when your platform supports it (websites, modern apps). Use JPG when you need maximum compatibility (e.g. some email clients or older systems).
